Rajai Davis robbed Jerry Sands of a potential RBI hit in the fourth inning of Saturday's game against the Indians, racing into the left-center field gap, and diving at the last moment to make the catch.

Through five innings, Tigers starter Alfredo Simon had not allowed a hit.

In the fifth inning of Sunday's game, Rangers manager Jeff Banister and third baseman Adrian Beltre were both tossed for arguing balls and strikes. At first, it was hard to tell which guys umpires Adam Hamari and Ron Kulpa had thrown out in which order.

That prompted this tweet:
(For the record, I think it was Beltre by Hamari, followed by Banister by Kulpa, but you can see for yourself.)
Daniel Norris' Tigers debut started well, with a 1-2-3 first inning, and got even better in the second, when he made a spectacular diving catch.

The rookie left-hander, acquired in the deal for David Price, made a diving lunge off the mound to catch a popped-up bunt attempt by the Orioles' J.J. Hardy Sunday afternoon.
The Detroit Tigers reportedly traded closer Joakim Soria to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday, and apparently are getting back SS/OF JaCoby Jones in the deal.

Here's a look at Jones, who was a third-round pick in the 2013 draft, out of LSU (above left).
J.D. Martinez, who hit a tape-measure home run Tuesday, already had one that ranked among the longest in Comerica Park history.

On May 15, 2013, when Martinez was still a member of the Houston Astros, he hit a two-run blast off Max Scherzer that went 464 feet, off the honor wall in left-center field, under the Willie Horton and Ty Cobb signs.

It's ranked as the longest home run by a visiting player in the park's history.

J.D. Martinez came to the Tigers with a reputation as not being a great defensive outfielder, but he's worked hard to turn that around.

"I just don't want to be the guy in the outfield that's a hazard," he said recently.

He was anything but a hazard in right field Friday night, robbing Chris Davis of a home run to end the third inning, then leaping to catch a sharp liner off the bat of Jimmy Paredes to end the fourth.
Alex Avila has played at first base before — mostly as an underclassman in college — but very little as a professional.

"It’s a little different, because I hadn’t played there regularly since college. There’s a different aspect, there’s a different angle to field. You’re more used to looking at everybody," he said before Saturday's game.

"Obviously, there’s different fundamentals to go along with that, which I have the basics of. I’m not going to be amazing over there, by any means. I’m going to be adequate."
He looked like an old pro on this play in his first career big-league start at first, robbing Toronto's Russell Martin with a catch on a foul ball in the fourth inning.

Former Tigers prospect Gorkys Hernandez was called upon as a pinch runner in Tuesday's 14-inning affair between the Pirates and Tigers, but it didn't go like he'd planned.

He ended up getting confused about whether a fly ball to right-center field was caught or not, missed second base on his way back by, and was called out on appeal.

That play eventually was the basis for a scoring change that charged Tigers reliever Alex Wilson with the loss.
"It’s not often you see a home run hit to center that you know is gone off the bat at Comerica Park," manager Brad Ausmus said. "And I think everyone knew it was gone off the bat."

Ausmus said that about Miguel Cabrera's home run that hit the camera well in center field Friday night, measured at 454 feet.

It was just as applicable to Sunday's fourth-inning home run, clocked at 450 feet, according to ESPN Stats and Info, that made it into the second row of shrubbery in center field, just right of the flag pole.

It got out fast enough to beat the deluge of rain that would suspend the game after the fifth inning.

In one of the in-game entertainment pieces the Detroit Tigers play on the scoreboard between innings, players are asked which super power they'd want to have.

Some chose invisibility.

Anthony Gose said he wanted to be able to fly.

Umm, Anthony? Pretty sure you already can.

The Tigers' center fielder went Superman style in the first inning of Saturday's game, laying out to rob Michael Brantley of a base hit.

Pitcher Justin Verlander put his arms in the air like he'd just thrown his first no-hitter, and all of Gose's teammates were waiting to greet him between third base and the dugout.
DETROIT >> Miguel Cabrera can hit some poster-perfect home runs.

He may have outdone himself on this one.

The Tigers slugger hit his 13th home run in the sixth inning of Friday’s game, clanging it off the roof of the camera platform that’s suspended halfway up the center field wall at Comerica Park.

“It’s not right,” catcher James McCann said. “It’s not fair.”

It measured at 452 feet, according to ESPN. The wall is 420 feet away from home plate.

It was Cabrera’s 403rd career home run, and his 265th with the Tigers, and gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead over the Cleveland Indians at the time.
The Detroit Tigers snagged Ryan Castellanos in the 25th round of the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft. The best part was that they let his older brother, third baseman Nick Castellanos, make the selection on the league's conference call.
