Dirks rests, Delmon back in lineup vs. Ubaldo, Tribe

The first thing most fans will probably notice is the absence of Andy Dirks, and the inclusion of Delmon Young in the lineup. While that may seem counterintuitive right off the bat, given the L/R matchup with Cleveland's Ubaldo Jimenez, a right-handed pitcher, it's really not.

While we all know that he doesn't like to discuss his lineups, manager Jim Leyland tipped his hand on the lineup Friday night, after the Tigers' 10-2 win.

"We got some maneuverability now. Delmon's gonna play tomorrow because he hits so well against Jimenez, Dirks does not. I think he's 2-for-15 or something, Delmon's hitting (.435). This gives us some options. Berry had another good night and that's the way I like to manage, when you have those — not that we haven't had them — but when you have those options and everybody chipping in. You gotta believe what stuff tells you. I don't know what'll happen (Saturday) with Delmon, but he's going to play, with his track record against Jimenez. How it plays out, I have no idea. But it tells you that he should play," Leyland said. "If you don't play him tomorrow, or anybody that's hitting (.435) off an opposing pitcher, then you might as well never look at any statistics."
