Tigers invite 16 non-roster players to spring camp, set to open in five weeks
Snow? What snow?
Five weeks from Friday, on Feb. 14, Detroit Tigers pitchers and catchers will strap on the gear and hit the fields at Tiger Town in Lakeland, Fla., for the first workout of the spring.
Four days later, the rest of the squad will follow suit.
The organization released its list of non-roster invitees on Thursday.
Familiar names include infielders Danny Worth and Devon Travis, the team’s Minor League Player of the Year, outfielder Tyler Collins and catcher James McCann.
Pitcher Robbie Ray, the future key to the Doug Fister trade, was also invited, as was Duane Below, back from a stint pitching in Korea. Lefty Blaine Hardy and right-handers Jhan Marinez, Luis Marte, former Cardinal Eduardo Sanchez and Drew VerHagen round out the contingent of pitchers to earn invitations.
Former Indians outfield prospects Ezequiel Carrera and Trevor Crowe were also invited, along with catchers Luis Exposito, Craig Albernaz and John Murrian.
