Miggy gets off his feet, at DH for finale vs. Tribe

Miguel Cabrera fouled a ball off his ankle earlier this week, and it's been bothering him a bit ever since.

Manager Jim Leyland wasn't even sure when the injury occurred — "I don’t know. It don’t make any difference. What’s the difference?" the skipper said Sunday — but he saw it as an opportunity.

"I’m going to DH him, because his ankle’s a little sore. That’s why I took him out the last two nights ... because his ankle was sore. Got him out of there," Leyland said, when unveiling his rather unconventional lineup for the series finale against the Cleveland Indians, which included second baseman Omar Infante in Miggy's place at third, and Cabrera DHing for just the fourth time this season.

"I was actually going to play Omar in left, DH (Delmon) Young, but then I decided, ‘You know what? This is an opportunity to give Cabrera a day off his ankle.’ He doesn’t really particularly like to DH day games, but this is a nice little (blow). You try to use some sense. Get him off his feet a little bit."

Cabrera had started 104 of the team's 107 games at third base, acting as the DH on three occasions before Sunday: April 21 (in the second game of a doubleheader), June 17 and July 6.

Leyland loaded the lineup with right-handers against Cleveland lefty Chris Seddon, who is making his first MLB start since 2007. Brennan Boesch and Prince Fielder were the only two lefties in the starting lineup. Seddon was limiting left-handed hitters to a .194 average at Triple-A Columbus this year, while right-handers were hitting .261, and had knocked out 15 of the 16 home runs he'd allowed in 20 starts.

Danny Worth returns to the lineup at second base, after getting recalled from Triple-A Toledo this morning.
