Cabrera and Scherzer penciled into starting lineup for finale

While Wednesday's game has been essentially meaningless since the Tigers clinched on Monday — they've been locked into the No. 3 seed since they won the American League Central — there still is a little bit to be settled for the Tigers.

While they know they'll host the first two games of the series at Comerica Park on Saturday (6:07 p.m.) and Sunday (TBA), there still were a couple of things up in the air for Wednesday's game.

First, would Max Scherzer be able to knock some rust off with a brief outing in the finale? It did not look like it on Tuesday, when the team announced he'd twisted his ankle in Monday's on-field celebration, noting that Luis Marte would start in his place. Wednesday, it apparently looked better.

Second, would Miguel Cabrera need to play at all to cinch up the first Triple Crown since 1967? As of Tuesday night, neither he nor his manager, Jim Leyland, knew if it would be necessary.

He was in the team's starting lineup when it was announced Wednesday afternoon, batting third and playing third.

Quintin Berry, LF
Miguel Cabrera, 3B
Prince Fielder, DH
Alex Avila, C
