Fielder, Cabrera grace cover of Sports Illustrated together

The picture has to be the same one opposing pitchers get, when they're having nightmares about the middle of the Detroit Tigers' batting order: Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera, both with a bat in their hands.

The twosome are on the current cover of Sports Illustrated that is on newsstands now. Both have been on the cover individually before, but never together. It's the first time since Al Kaline and Denny McLain in September of 1968. Before that, it was Kaline and Harvey Kuenn in May of 1956. Justin Verlander was on one of the season preview covers this spring.

The cover story, written by former Detroit Free Press columnist Michael Rosenberg, is entitled "Bash Brothers," featuring the men that came into Wednesday with a combined 120 RBI, both ranking in the top seven in baseball.

“Cabrera is the best hitter in baseball and Fielder is the game’s best sidekick,” wrote Rosenberg. “Years from now, we may look back and decide Cabrera is Mickey Mantle and Fielder is Roger Maris. Or Hank Aaron and Eddie Mathews. Or Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.”
