Lefty Downs a late addition to September roster

If you haven’t been recalled by this point, usually you can pack it up, and go home.

Luckily for Darin Downs, he finally got the call, 10 days into September.

“When you thought your season was over.. But wait there’s more,” he tweeted at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The Tigers have recalled the contract of the left-handed reliever from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, giving themselves another potential option for the postseason bullpen.

Downs spent the first three months of the season with the Tigers, posting an 0-2 record and a 5.18 ERA in 33 innings pitched over 26 appearances.

He hadn’t been with the team since July 7, when he went on the disabled list with tendinitis in the rotator cuff of his throwing shoulder. After two rehab stints, he was optioned to the Mud Hens on Aug. 4, when his disabled list stint ran out.
